The landlord of a public house in Shropshire has installed parking barriers at its car park after getting fed up of people abusing it.

According to the Shropshire Star, Alan Houlihan, landlord of the Elephant and Castle in Shawbury, has set up parking barriers at the park so that only the pub's patrons can use it.

Drivers not wanting to stop for a pint in the pub have been told to stop using the car park, after Mr Houlihan was forced to close it when the pub wasn't open.

The popular village attracts many visitors and the car park is used temporarily by people nipping to the shops, meaning the pub's customers have to park elsewhere.

The landlord told the newspaper: "I can’t understand why people aren’t using the proper village car park by the village hall. It is well signposted, so there’s no excuse.

"Non-customers using my car park seem to be ones who quickly stop in the village to pick up few bits from the other shops."

This month residents in Shefford were delighted after crash barriers were installed at a play area in the area.
