Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said that he could have done more to ensure police within the perimeter of the high security fencing at the recent G20 summit were aware of their powers.

However, McGuinty said that he did not owe anyone an apology with regard to the police's handling of G20 protestors.

Speaking to the Canadian Press, McGuinty said: "In hindsight, I think that we could have - and probably should have - done something to make it perfectly clear to people what we were actually talking about."

His comments refer to police using a 'new power' at the summit which they claimed allowed to arrest anyone within five metres of the G20 high security fencing solution if they failed to produce ID - a power which never actually existed.

"I think it would be fair for us to have taken on that responsibility to communicate that directly with the public," McGuinty concluded.

The termporary security fencing solution at the G20 was dismantled last week.ADNFCR-3337-ID-19873880-ADNFCR
