Councillors and teachers in Wigan are celebrating after a six-year campaign for high security school fencing has finally paid off.
Landgate School, in Bryn, now boasts security fencing and metal gates so that children can play on the school fields both inside and outside of school hours in safety, according to Wigan Today.
Councillors Don Hodgkinson and Gary Wilkes have championed the installation of a new fence for many years. Mr Hodgkinson told the news provider: "After almost six years we have finally got a new fence which is much higher and safer than the old wooden one it has replaced."
Head teacher of Landgate Primary School was in full support of the new security fencing.
Mr Wilkes told the news source: "The school has been great in getting this fence for us, head teacher Janet Sharps has supported our request and understood they needed the fence for security.
"The new kissing gate also makes the field available to the people of Landgate estate all the time."
Earlier this month residents who campaigned for the fixing of damaged crash barriers protected a play area in Shefford were pleased that improvement work had taken place.
