High security fencing is urgently needed along a railroad track in America, it has been stated.
In a letter to the editor of the New Times, Katie E Lichtig, city manager of San Luis Obispo in California, said that high security fencing would form a major part of plans to improve fencing next to a railroad in the city.
The letter has been prompted after a member of the public died in an accident on July 15th close to the Murray Street and Hathway Street intersection.
Ms Lichtig told the news provider that city authorities had received many enquiries regarding security fencing at the rail track from members of the public after the accident.
Sadly the site of the accident lacked security fencing; it is now the intention of the city to install fencing along this stretch.
Ms Lichtig also said many security fencing projects were already in place.
"All of the city's projects, such as our Railroad Safety Trail, include seven-foot-tall, black security fencing to prevent pedestrians and bicyclists from crossing the tracks," she told the news provider.
Earlier this month a survey in Scotland said 86 per cent of people wanted crash barriers installed at open rail crossings.
