Play area fencing will be part of a significant redevelopment of a play park in Wales.

According to walesonline.co.uk, Gwernifor Park, in the country's Cynon Valley, will benefit from a £63,000 grant from the Welsh Assembly's Heads of the Valleys scheme.

The popular site will use the money to redevelop the play area by installing security fencing, repairing the paddling pool and tennis courts, and improving seating. New play equipment, chosen by members of the Darran Las Communities First Playscheme, will also be bought.

The grant was secured by a bid from a joint-venture of Darran Las Communities First, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Darran Las Environmental Group.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council cabinet member Robert Bevan told the newspaper: "In these difficult financial times, it is vital that we, as an authority, join forces with the community to secure the external funding opportunities that allow schemes such as this to happen."

The development is expected to be completed by the autumn.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800042125-ADNFCR
