The use of traffic barriers has been credited with helping to ease traffic and keep things in good order after construction work on one of Stafford's busiest roads continues.
According to the Express and Star, repair work on a collapsed sewer beneath the A34 in Queensville has been delayed, raising fears of more traffic problems to come.
Traffic barriers have been installed that encircle the excavation site, allowing traffic to pass freely.
The discovery of a gas main has delayed the work, which had to be stopped due to safety concerns.
Temporary traffic lights and other roadworks have added to the problems.
Gill Dickinson, spokesperson for Severn Trent Water, told the newspaper that the company was still assessing the situation, but said traffic barriers had eased traffic close to the site.
"We've not been able to progress further with the sewer pipe repair as we're still assessing how best to tackle what's needed.
"The excavated trench contains gas and water pipes as well the damaged sewer pipe, and we need to make sure we take a safe and practicable approach to the repairs.
"In the meantime, the excavation has been safely enclosed by barriers and traffic is able to flow freely past the spot."
Traffic and crash barriers can be used for a variety of building and safety projects. This month crash barriers were erected in Shefford to help protect a nearby children's play area.
