Automated gates can be a very useful part of a company's access control system, it has been stated.

According to portstrategy.com, automated gate systems can handle more vehicles and, when coupled with advanced traffic systems that allow users to predict potential flow and plan ahead, such traffic barriers can be even more effective.

Brian Mannelly, from the Port of Tacoma in the US, told the news provider he felt automated gates and data systems were now an important part of commercial access control packages.

"I feel strongly that centralised data exchange, standardised electronic data interchange formats (particularly related to billing/invoicing), robust communications systems, and convenient and accessible end-user (primarily within the trucking community) interfaces will be key implementation measures to manage peak and off-peak demand management," he told the news provider.
