A recreational field used for playing sports will benefit from the installation of high security fencing.

According to the Braintree and Witham Times, the field, close to Stevens Road in Witham, has been plagued by nuisance behaviour. Burnt-out cars have been discovered at the site and reckless motorists are driving vehicles over it as a dangerous short cut.

Robin Norton, a neighbourhood watch organiser for the area, told the newspaper that the old security fencing was no longer fit for purpose.

"The fence had deteriorated over the years.

"We had cars burnt out there and motorcycles driving over it as a short cut, and nearly all of them were unregistered or unlicensed."

Mr Norton also reported that dog walkers were using the ground and football games were taking place without permission.

Braintree Council has said that security fencing will be erected around the perimeter of the site within the next ten weeks.

The risks posed by leaving security fencing in a state of disrepair was highlighted this month when members of an allotment in Worcester said that they have been waiting over a week for their security fence to be fixed, after an attempted break in.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800043146-ADNFCR
