Cemex UK has backed the Mineral Products Association's (MPA) campaign to stop young people jumping high security fencing at the UK's many quarries.

Liz Young, a spokesperson for Cemex UK, which owns the the quarry in Finchampstead, told Get Wokingham: "People do find quarries attractive because they have beautiful blue water but the sides are often deep and there are steep cliffs.

"Often there are also sand piles which people want to play in but they are very dangerous."

She added that Cemex UK lends its full support to the MPA as it attempts to tackle the issue of young people ignoring warnings and vaulting high security fencing to gain access to potentially-lethal quarries.

The MPA has set up a Facebook page entitled Stay Safe... Stay Out of Quarries as part of the awareness campaign.

MPA chief executive Nigel Jackson has used the parents of two teenagers killed in quarry accidents to make sure the message hits home.ADNFCR-3337-ID-19821885-ADNFCR
