Angry Epping residents have confronted council members over new fencing legislation, according to the Waltham Forest Guardian.

Park home residents are angry about the new regulations, which ask them to reduce or even get rid of garden fencing and hedges at their homes.

In a series of angry exchanges, residents barracked council leaders over the enforcement of the new legislation, which was formulated in 2008.

Paul Burling, chairman of The Elms Residents' Association in Waltham Abbey, voiced his concerns.

He said: "Surely it's reasonable for homeowners to have fences or hedges not only for their own security but for privacy?"

Councillor Liz Webster was one member who opposed the regulations.

"Hedges and fences are an integral part of each home and should be treated as such and left alone," she said.

When the news was announced earlier this year, one resident described the rules as "discrimination".

Now hundreds of residents have signed a petition against the new fencing rules and have successfully got the legislation sent back to cabinet for re-assessment, according to the news provider.
