Security forces believe a prisoner escaped from a detention centre because of the poor condition of its security fencing, it has been stated.
Gerry Haynes escaped from the Charles B Webster Detention Centre in Augusta, US, this Sunday, according to the Augusta Chronicle.
It is believed the state of the security fence encircling the yard was not properly put in place when it was moved inward last year.
Sheriff Ronnie Strength told the news provider the steel fencing was not secure.
"When the fence was moved in, the bottom, right-hand corner of the fence was not as secure as it should have been.
"Over a period of time he was able to work the fence loose and push it far enough so he could get out," he said.
According to WJBF-TV, Mr Haynes was re-captured yesterday morning.
The news source said the sheriff was now planning to reinforce the security fencing at the centre.
