A nursery in Lambeth has defended a range of security measures, including school fencing.

According to StreathamGuardian.co.uk, Asquith Day Nursery in Dulwich has erected six foot high school fencing, as well as finger-print recognition and a CCTV system.

It is now thought to be one of the safest nurseries in the country and is part of an investment package of £1.8 million Asquith has spent on all its nurseries across the UK.

Parents support the move but some groups have criticised the measures.
However Andy Morris, chief executive of Asquith Nurseries, defended the spending.

"Our top priority is child safety and security.

"This pioneering programme goes further than ever before towards providing a totally safe environment for children entrusted to our care by parents," he said.

Earlier this month plans to erect school fencing were put in place at a school in Staffordshire after residents aired safety concerns. Security fencing was to be erected at Draycott Moor College.
