A community park in Australia has secured a funding grant to erect security bollards in a bid to prevent cars driving onto the area.

The Bredbo Community Progress Association will use a $6,000 (£3,485) grant from Cooma-Monaro Shire Council to erect security bollards along the edge of Bredbo Centennial Park, according to the Cooma-Monaro Express.

The traffic barriers will be installed after concern from local residents that vehicles coming onto the park were damaging trees and irrigation lines.

Louise Bowerman, president of the association, said she was pleased the funding had been agreed.

"We asked the council at the management plan meeting that was held at the Bredbo hall if the council could fund the materials and the community would have a working bee and erect the bollards so this is just great news to receive this allocation of funding from council," she said.

"It is a great example of council and the community working together to get things done."

Security bollards are the association's "number one priority", according to the news provider.

Earlier this year Birmingham's road network benefited from an upgrade that saw traffic barriers and parking barriers installed.
