The suggestions of high security fencing has helped to calm residents in Guernsey concerned over a new graveyard proposal.

A cemetery is planned on a site in Castel, the largest parish on the island, and locals living in Courtil Ollivier and Rue de la Croix, close to the planned spot, had expressed fears over the intention.

However, they have "cautiously accepted" the plans after being placated by the suggestion that security fencing could be installed to block out the graveyard.

According to the newspaper, residents were unconcerned about the site as long as security fencing is put in place.

Mum Gemma Gaudion told the news provider she was initially worried about the plans. "When we were first informed, it was a little like "oh my god" because it will be right at the end of our garden," she said.

But now it is hoped the installation of fencing will eradicate any worries.

This month high security fencing was under consideration as a security measure after an allotment in Essex was attacked by vandals.
