Police are implementing a number of security measures to tackle protestors at the upcoming G20 event in Toronto.

As well as several miles of high security fencing, police are set to use powerful water cannons to control protestors if problems arise.

The temporary security fencing solution in downtown Toronto was completed yesterday and the authorities have shifted their focus onto other crowd control measures.

Speaking to the Toronto Star, Michelle Murphy, a member of the Integrated Security Unit, said that water projection systems are particularly effective at controlling large crowds if riots ensue.

The city has already removed a large number of items that could be damaged by protestors, such as bins, bus shelters, public artworks and other street furniture.

Organised demonstrations have already been planned for the week running up to the G20 summit and local authorities are planning to match the influx of people with a steady increase in the number of security personnel.

The actual summit will take place on June 26th and 27th.ADNFCR-3337-ID-19852078-ADNFCR
