The high security fencing erected at this year's G20 Summit in Toronto is being taken down.

Construction workers are attempting to remove the temporary security fencing solution as quickly as possible, so downtown Toronto can be returned to normal after the international meeting of state leaders.

Canada's Integrated Security Unit left a message on Twitter on Sunday night claiming that "the perimeter fence has been opened".

The fencing was opened up just hours after police arrested more than 600 protestors.

Ontario Provincial Police claimed that traffic had returned to normal on Monday along the city's major highways.

Commenting on the protests at the G20 event, Toronto police chief William Blair said: "There is a small group of criminals, whose only motivations are violence and destruction, who have appalled those who came to express their views in a peaceful manner.

"We will investigate every crime committed at the summit, and track down and charge all those responsible."

Before the G20 Summit was convened, Julian Ichim, a member of a Guelph anti-poverty charity, told the Guelph Mercury that his group would remove sections of the temporary security fencing solution.ADNFCR-3337-ID-19862809-ADNFCR
