Sydney is gearing up for the World Cup and has begun installing high security fencing as a means of protecting fans.
As the city extends its licensing hours to coincide with the start of the tournament, certain parts of Darling Harbour have been fenced off to cope with the predicted influx of revellers.
Darling Harbour will become one of just six official FIFA Fan Fest sites, and the city has installed a giant screen and floating part-sized football field.
Soccer is one of those games that incites passion," Police Minister Michael Daley told Nine MSN on Wednesday.
"Passion and alcohol sometimes don't mix. So if you've had too much to drink or if you want to come in here, have too much to drink and behave like a fool, the police will arrest you and you will be charged," they added.
Football fan safety will be ensured with high security fencing and security bollards.
FIFA's Fan Fest is a 24/7 event that will last for the duration of the entire World Cup – hence the extended alcohol licensing times.
