Historic metal railings could be preserved
Historic buildings in Colchester, including their ornate metal railings, are set to be preserved if an extension is granted to a conservation area in the town.

Victorian and Edwardian roads in the south of Colchester could be given special protected status if local authorities agree to Colchester Historic Buildings Forum's requests, the Colchester Daily Gazette reports.

Homes that have remained more or less unchanged since they were built have metal railings, glass panels and front gardens dating back as far as the 1840s.

"Beaconsfield Avenue, in particular, is an outstanding example of a late Victorian street of terraced houses where many original features still survive and there has been relatively few recent alterations," Colchester Archaeological Trust director Philip Crummy told the newspaper.

It follows news that residents in Loxwood have been asked to "buy a brick" in an appeal to fund the replacement of metal railings on a canal bridge.ADNFCR-3337-ID-19775378-ADNFCR
