Metal railings to enhance author trail
Metal railings are being used as part of a village trail around Colinton, which was the hometown of Treasure Island author Robert Louis Stevenson's grandfather.

The writer spent much of his childhood visiting the Scottish village, and now his life and works will be celebrated by the trail, which guides visitors through the village to the parish church, reports the Scotsman.

At the start of the trail, at the triangle garden on Woodall Road, there are a number of ornamental metal railings, depicting a timeline of the village's past.

Director of the Colinton Community Conservation Trust, which is behind the project, Duncan Campbell, said: "Robert Louis Stevenson is one of the important figures in Colinton's history, famous in his own right, but the overall idea is to promulgate the heritage of the village and its fantastic history and create something that would be of interest and encourage people to visit the village, and hopefully help the businesses there."

Stevenson's best known books include Kidnapped and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
