A councillor in Weston has suggested that offenders in the area should help work on railings around Ashcombe Park.
It is hoped that this will help ease the backlog in the community service waiting lists, The Weston Mercury reported.
The railings suggestion that was made by councillor Mark Canniford makes up part of a scheme that could help prevent those on shorter punishments from waiting months to complete their community service.
Ashcombe Park offers visitors a range of activities and features to enjoy including tennis, bowls, pitch and putt and picnic tables.
Other councillors have been urged to send their nominations for other projects in Weston that the offenders could work on to town clerk Malcolm Nicholson.
"It's very frustrating, because you given them community work, or whatever they call it these days and if it's only 30 or 40 hours they may not start it for six to eight months," committee chairman Ian Porter, who is also a magistrate, said.
During their community service, the criminals will be under close supervision. They could be called upon to carry out any manual project in the town.
