A play area in Chard could require security fencing after vandals caused damage in the area.

The playground in Upper Henson Park was hit by criminals, who pulled up safety matting from under swings and other equipment at the site, reports thisisthewestcountry.co.uk.

Councillors now believe that the problems will cost around £3,000 to fix and in the meantime children are unable to take advantage of using the facilities.

The Mayor, Cllr Cathie Morrison, told the news provider that she is upset by the actions of vandals in the area.

"It's very disappointing that this should happen right at the start of the school summer holidays. We're going to have to see what we can do to put it right," she explained.

"The swings will be out of action until we can get things sorted out."

Meanwhile, Catterick Garrison has seen the introduction of play area fencing in the last week after a £74,000 grant was provided.
