Visitors to a primary school in Huddersfield will get an even warmer welcome now that attractive metal gates
have gone up at its entrance.
Sculptor Mick Kirby-Geddes and pupils from Shepley First School worked together to create the steel gates
, the Huddersfield Daily Examiner reports.
Children each created a small picture which the sculptor worked into the design of the gates.
The school's old gate, which dates back to the 1960s, was partly recycled and incorporated into the new structure.
Funding for the project came from the school's Friends of Shepley.
Recently, schoolchildren in Ripon designed road safety signs to attach to their school's metal railings
Jake Manock and Katie Croxford, who go to Markington Primary School, won a competition to design the safety signage, the Ripon Gazette reported.
The pair had their designs chosen by a panel of three judges, including representatives from North Yorkshire fire and rescue service and Harrogate District Community Safety Partnership.
