Firefighters have freed a deer after it became entangled in school fencing
The animal's antlers were caught in the security fencing
at the recreational fields of Grange Community Technology College in Rawtenstall earlier this week (October 20th).
An off-duty firefighter spotted the adult deer trapped in the fencing, which has been erected while the school's new sixth form is developed, the Lancashire Telegraph reported.
The animal became unsettled when members of the fire service approached it, the newspaper said.
A rescue team, specialising in animal rescue, was asked to help. They placed a sheet over the animal's head to calm it down, after which firefighters cut the fencing, freeing the deer which trotted happily off into nearby woodland.
The UK deer population is flourishing, with deer increasingly being spotted in a variety of public spaces. There are thought to be around two million in the UK.
