A security bollard erected on a traffic island earlier this year is to be taken down amid security concerns.

The installation on Sleaford Road in Ruskington sparked objections after drivers found it hard to pass buses picking up and dropping off passengers at a nearby stop.

As a result, traffic queued back along the road and motorists took dangerous risks to overtake the buses and continue with their journeys.

Lincolnshire County Council's head of transportation Chris Briggs said: "Due to our safety concerns about the reckless manoeuvres taken by motorists, we have been forced to consider an alternative solution for the bus stop on Sleaford Road."

He told the Sleaford Standard that the actions of motorists had not been taken into consideration when introducing the traffic island.

Research from TomTom recently found that Oxford has seen its levels of congestion increase at a rate faster than anywhere else in the UK over the past year.
