Metal gates will be installed to increase security at a revamped children's nursery centre in Hartlepool.

The Clever Clogs Day Nursery has benefited from a £10,000 investment from its new owners, who are developing the site's garden into an educational space that will teach children about the benefits of the great outdoors, the Hartlepool Mail reports.

Featuring a sandpit, performance spaces, playhouse, digging and potting areas, the children will learn the health benefits of growing fresh produce.

Existing fencing at the nursery will be covered in willow and new metal gates will shore up security.

Andrea Townsley, founder of the Clever Clogs Nursery chain, told the newspaper: "Having invested a lot of time and money in decorating the whole nursery, investing in new toys and training staff since we took over the nursery in February, it is great to see the garden starting to take shape and the final piece of our jigsaw fitting into place just in time for the summer."
