Metal gates are needed at one of Colchester's rail stations to stop commuters exploiting a gap in the fencing that surrounds the site.
According to the Daily Gazette, users of the town's North Station are using the gap as a short-cut to the car park.
Hundreds of residents pass the gap as they walk down a hill from the Mile End area of the town.
Jordan Newell, local resident and chairman of Colchester Labour Party, has written to Network Rail and National Express East Anglia to request the installation of metal gates, the newspaper reported.
In response, National Express and Colchester Council have both said they would be happy to work on the proposal.
"Any improvement to the station access will be a valuable facility to the growing number of station users living on the New Braiswick Park estate," Mr Newell told the newspaper.
"It is great the council has offered to help with this project and we are now working together to look at what the next steps will be."
Colchester's other station is Colchester Town.
