Basildon residents have expressed their delight at the installation of metal railings in their area to block access to an alleyway.

Locals in Rayside have been dismayed to find people taking drugs at the site of 36 empty garages in their town, calling for them to be demolished.

This will now take place in the near future, while metal railings will stop people having access to the area, reports echo-news.co.uk.

Eric O'Brien told the news provider that there has been a notable difference since the barriers were put in place recently.

He explained: "For the last couple of weeks, since the railings have gone in, I haven't seen one of the yobs around here.

"There's been little antisocial behaviour in the last fortnight. It's been reduced to a minimum."

Meanwhile, metal railings have also been installed at a community centre in north Wales as part of a £70,000 renovation of the facilities.
