Cambridge multi-sport courts will be restored after a local community organisation was given around £56,000 in funding.

The Friends of Great Chesterford Recreation Ground was given all of the funding it asked for from the Big Lottery Fund and will install new sports fencing, goal mouths and netball posts, reports Cambridge-news.co.uk.

Cllr Sorrel Gordon-Foxwell, chairman of the group, told the news provider that people in the community will benefit greatly from the upgrades.

"We are delighted to be able to make these updates to the multi-sports courts," he explained.

"They are well-used by a big cross-section of the community and we hope that the improvements will allow even more people to enjoy the facilities."

Residents will also be able to use the courts free of charge until 22:00 each night.

Temple Park and Cleadon Recreation Ground in South Shields could have sports fencing after damage was done to the football pitches.
