A puppy was left needing 18 stitches after injuring itself on metal railings that had been vandalised.

Eight-month-old Ollie was off his lead when the incident occurred near Sunnywood Drive in Tottington on Saturday September 25th, reports the Bury Times.

The dog, which weighs 15kg, required emergency surgery at Armac Vets but was allowed home soon after. He is now recovering before he goes for a check-up to ensure he is healing properly.

Ollie's owner Roger Brand said the culprits responsible to vandalising the security fencing fail to think about the consequences of their actions when they cause damage to public property.

"It is just frustrating," Mr Brand told the Bury Times. "It could have been a child. The fence could have been kicked down overnight. Kids take the scrambler bikes down there on the playing field."

The BBC recently reported that thefts of metal gates are on the rise across the UK and the price of metals rises across the globe.
