Flintshire's playgrounds are set to undergo refurbishment through a council grant and the replacement of play area fencing could also take place.

The local county council has put aside £61,000 for it to spend on 18 different play areas, while other community councils have also agreed to invest.

While final designs are still undergoing checks, it is thought work will happen early next year, reports the Flintshire Chronicle.

It comes after around £111,000 was spent in the 2010/2011 financial year on play areas across the county - including £12,000 for future maintenance and £5,500 for contingencies.

Among the playgrounds that could see improvements are The Willows in Hope, Plough Lane in Aston and Wyndham Drive in Llanfynydd, the news provider added.

Malvern Town Council announced last month that it will not install extra security fencing in a play area, despite problems caused by it becoming a late night social spot for youths.
