Residents are calling for parking barriers to be installed at a car park to stop nuisance drivers making their lives a misery.

According to the Echo, the motorists have been performing stunts and playing excessively loud music at the WRVS car park in Benfleet for three years.

But residents have been left frustrated by delays in getting a security measure in place.

Now, though, it looks as if the traffic barriers will be installed in a matter of months.

Castle Point Council will offer a maximum of £2,000 to pay for the gates and residents have said they are happy to hold responsibility for locking them.

Some people had spotted the racers at the car park as late as 2am. They often leave at high speed, endangering other motorists.

Dennis Shrubshall told the newspaper: "It's frightening how fast they turn into that road. There's going to be nasty smash up there one day."

Last month, special 'K' barriers were installed at alleyways in an estate in Derby to stop people riding motorbikes through them.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800406567-ADNFCR
