Kabifita Upper Basic School needs the fencing to protect it from wild animals.
Security fencing has been installed around a school in Gambia – thanks to cash raised by schoolchildren in Portsmouth.
Pupils at Admiral Lord Nelson School (ALNS) raised £2,000 to buy the fencing for Kabifita Upper Basic School in the African country, the Portsmouth News reports.
The school desperately needs fencing to protect it from wild animals.
Representatives from ALNS have been making trips to Gambia for five years, looking for worthy causes to raise funds for.
Teacher Debbie Lucas told the newspaper Kabifita would also benefit from electricity and internet access as a result of the fundraising.
Headteacher Steve Labedz told the newspaper: "Our links to Gambia not only educate our young people that there's a massive world out there, but also that they are the same people with the same problems - just in different ways."
In April this year, ALNS is set to make a return to the country, visiting a maternity and malaria hospital it supports.
