Security bollards installed in Wood Farm Close in Leigh have caused something of a stir in the area, with residents making complaints to their local council.

They believe the bollards should be removed as parking areas for locals have been severely restricted.

At present, 60 people have signed a petition calling for the bollards to be removed, as they were initially put in place by Southend Council to protect grass verges.

It argued that the spaces were ruined by motorists who used them to park their cars, tearing up the turf in the process.

"There's only about one space for every other house, so there are a lot of people who can't find anywhere to park," local resident Tony Hinckley told the Southend Standard.

Lancashire County Council recently launched an initiative to crack down on anyone showing disregard for parking barriers as access to key locations was being blocked.
