A new proposal to improve the seaside area of Leith in Scotland has been announced by the city council.
The local authority said that it will invest £560,000 in an upgrade of the historic Shore area with wider pavements, the planting of trees to line the roads and the installation of security bollards, according to the Scotsman.
Work on the project is expected to begin next month and will revitalise the area, bringing in more tourists and encouraging a "cafe culture" to develop in the region, the council said.
Local councillor Marjorie Thomas explained: "Cafe culture is part of the equation but it is really to try to ease traffic along there because it is an ancient road with cobbled streets."
The Yorkshire Evening Post recently reported that a multi-storey car park in Woodhouse Lane, Leeds, could undergo £5.5 million worth of improvements including security bollards, ahead of Leeds Arena's opening in 2013.
