Security fencing can protect some of our most delicate natural open spaces.
This week, the Downlands Trust, a charity that works to restore rare flowers and wildlife to a Croydon nature reserve, secured £5,000 to install fencing.
According to the Croydon Guardian, the trust needed security fencing to protect the Hutchinson’s Bank Nature Reserve, in New Addington, a natural chalk site.
"We are really ecstatic about this. We are putting animals on the site and so it needs to be properly fenced. The money will be used to build fences to extend the security of the site so we can graze more animals on it," Martin deFreitas, from Downlands, said.
Animals were purposely introduced to the area two years ago in order to eat away shrubs and brambles, which destroy chalk flowers.
The fencing will also stop people driving onto the site.
The money was provided by the Gannett Foundation, which supports community initiatives.
