Security fencing at one of the busiest airports in the world is set to be fortified and strengthened.
The Board of Airport Commissioners for Los Angeles this week put out a tender for bids from firms interested in improving Los Angeles International Airport's (LAX) perimeter fencing, dailybreeze.com reports.
While LAX's current security fencing adheres to state regulations, it is not deemed to be up to full standard because it has been built in waves over the past decade.
The fence will either be entirely replaced or bolstered by additional security measures, the website said.
In 2008, LAX served over 55 million passengers, handling 1.8 million tonnes of freight.
It was originally called Mines Field, and was used during World War II for military flights, with commercial aviation not beginning until 1946. Domestic and international terminals were built in the 1980s.
