Security fencing up to stop Tyne and Wear off-roaders

Security fencing up to stop Tyne and Wear off-roaders
Security fencing and crash barriers have been put up to stop off-road motorbike riders "ruining" flagship new woodland recently created by the Woodland Trust.

The fencing has also been installed in Easington Lane to stop riders using land near White Hill Road and disturbing nearby residents.

A joint operation between Northumbria Police, Sunderland City Council and the Woodland Trust has seen security fencing, barriers and 'A' frames put in place to deter the illegal riders.

Gary Haley, Woodland Trust site manager, said: "White Hill Woods is one of our flagship woods in the north east, one which has had a great deal of local support.

"To see it treated with such a lack of respect is disappointing and hopefully these new measures will enable everyone to enjoy the site as it should be."

White Hill Woods is situated on a limestone plateau to the east of Durham. Together with Elemore Woods, it covers 376 acres of publicly accessible woodland.
