Traffic barriers are to be installed in Spenborough as utility companies replace more than 250 metres of gas pipes on Cleckheaton main road.

A plastic version is going to substitute older pipes to provide a longer-term solution to the problem, with works expected to cost around £30,000.

Temporary traffic barriers will be put into place while improvements are carried out, though it is expected that everything will be completed by the end of August, reports spenboroughguardian.co.uk.

Area operations manager of Northern Gas Networks Mick Hewett told the news provider that it is important that these works are carried out.

"We know that no-one likes to be faced with road works but this project is crucial to ensuring that we continue to provide a reliable and safe supply of gas to our customers," he explained.

"Once the work is complete, we won't need to come back for some time."

Meanwhile, traffic barriers were removed by Wales & West Utilities earlier this month in Plymouth after finishing works quicker than expected.
