Sports netting will be introduced at the Western Australia Cricket Association's (WACA) pitch for matches set to take place over the coming months.

The sports netting will maintain a separation between players and spectators in a bid to prevent pitch invasions, Yahoo! Sport reports.

During the last cricket season a man got onto the WACA pitch during an ODI match and bundled Pakistan batsman Khalid Latif to the ground.

"Nets will be placed about two metres out from the fence and will be about 1.5 or 1.6 metres in height," WACA chief executive Graeme Wood told Australian radio station 6PR. He stressed it would not spoil the spectators' view.

"From the slope of the ground, and the slope of the banks, there will be no visual impairment.

"If you look east to west, you won't even notice the netting."

Mr Wood also said cricket fans may also have their alcohol allowance at the ground reduced.
