Temporary security fencing will be put up at a spot where a puppy fell some 20ft into a train track.

A couple from Oakley Vale, Corby, were out for a stroll with their cocker spaniel along a woodland path when it ran off and fell to the tracks, the Evening Telegraph reported.

The puppy suffered a damaged leg joint and its owners had to take six weeks off work to look after the 14-week old pet.

The couple contacted Network Rail about the incident and representatives from the organisation, which runs and maintains Britain's rail infrastructure, visited the site this week.

A spokesperson said: "Temporary fencing will be put up even though it is not clear if it is our responsibility.

"Because there are concerns over people's safety, we are making the area safe," the newspaper reported.

The couple urged adults and children to stay away from the area after the accident.

Recently, temporary security fencing was put up around a Leicester pub destroyed in an arson attack in order to prepare it for scheduled demolition.
