The need for traffic barriers may soon be greater than ever, as predictions suggest there will be a surge in road use over the next 25 years.

It is believed by the RAC that four million extra vehicles will be on the nation's roads, which may become problematic as the government's spending on infrastructure is reduced.

A report from the group states: "The government has significantly reduced road transport investment because of the recession and ministers have not explained what plans they have to cope with the bleak picture painted by their own numbers."

It was recently announced by the Highways Agency that traffic barriers along a section of the M6 are to be upgraded to enhance the safety of road users.

The work will be carried out between Junction 39 of the motorway at Shap and Junction 42 near Carlisle, with the next session planned for December 4th.
