A play area in Alnwick, Northumberland, has been branded "vile" by a local mother who now refuses to take her daughter to the playground.

The site, situated behind the Alnwick North Community Centre, is normally the ideal spot for mums and toddlers to play but broken glass and dog fouling has made it unsightly for some.

Jodie Davies described the play area to the Northumberland Gazette as being "vile" and has said that she would "love to take her daughter" but with amount of litter around she does not deem it safe.

With many authorities across the country splashing out money on new facilities, such as a £100,000 renovation of a Lancashire facility, many in the Northumberland town think that more should be done about it.

Ms Davies told the source: "I would love to take my daughter there but you just can’t take the risk. There is broken glass, dog mess, rubbish etc everywhere. The play things and climbing frames are always broken as well."
