Cambridge City Council has come to the aid of residents blighted by anti-social drivers by installing metal security bollards.

People in the East Chesterton area of the university city have complained for a long time that vandals are driving around at unruly hours causing damage and using roads as a cut through for other areas.

Cambridge has been a hive of anti-social behaviour after residents in Rustat Avenue complained of boy racers, the council stopped that problem by installing a gate.

The authority had originally installed wooden bollards at the junction of Water Street and Water Lane but vandals sawed through them to gain easier access to Fen Road. Now the metal barriers are seen to be a much bigger deterrent.

Councillor Clare Blair said: "I am really pleased that only weeks after our well-attended meeting about Fen Road we are already seeing action to improve safety for residents."
