A set of collapsible security bollards are just one part of plans in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, to improve visibility for drivers.

Hedges on the A47 will be cut back at a bypass near the town in a bid to reduce the amount of accidents that occur in the area. The Highways Agency is planning to also install skid-resistant tarmac along with the barriers, which aims to improve safety on the busy stretch.

Whilst the road organisation has begun work on a host of highways to improve the quality of driving for UK motorists, this latest move will help to increase the visibility on the dangerous stretch of road.

Councillor Robert McLaren told the Wisbech Standard: "In the short-term the Highways Agency is going to make sure that drivers have better visibility by trimming the hedgerows back. In the future it could lay red skid-resistant tarmac and possibly some collapsible bollards."
