Crash barriers on A329M prevent 3 serious crashes

Crash barriers on A329M prevent 3 serious crashes
Crash barriers have played a role in preventing at least three serious accidents on the A329M.

The road safety measures were put in place after the death of RAF technician Paul Payne in February 2010, according to GetWokingham.co.uk.

So far, Wokingham Borough Council has spent more than £1 million on the scheme after it was pressured into acting by the public.

Councillor Keith Baker, executive member for transport at the local authority, said: "It is difficult to say whether they have saved lives as you are guessing whether people in accidents would have crossed the central reservation and how serious the accident would have been."

He added that there have been at least three cars that have crashed into the barrier, which has then prevented the vehicles crossing the central reservation.

Earlier this week, crash barriers between Nelson and Colne were tested after three accidents in nearly as many minutes caused chaos on the roads.
