A Buckinghamshire play area has staved off the threat of being shut down as it secured its future for the next 20 years.

Children lined the play area fencing in celebration of the announcement that the facility would remain at the heart of Riley Park, Marlow, for at least the next two decades. It has come as welcome relief for campaigners after weeks of hard work.

Over 1,000 people joined up to a Facebook campaign to make sure that the play area remained in the park with some parents even threatening to chain themselves to the swings.

A number of play areas were given a 99-year guarantee as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. However, disagreements between who should pay for the upkeep of the Riley Park facility threatened to tear it apart before the resolution was met.

Marlow Mayor Jocelyn Towns told Bucks Free Press: "Now we are able to move ahead with the new play equipment and we have had a great reaction from residents on the proposed new play scheme."
