Crash barriers for a railway bridge in Gloucestershire have been deemed not a priority despite a major incident.
Three people managed to escape an upturned car after plunging off the bridge narrowly missing an oncoming train on Saturday (December 31st). While there were no fatalities the charity that runs the line wants more to be done to prevent deaths in the future.
Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railways (GWR) said it will look into ways to make the area safer but claimed that it did not have money to spend freely on barriers that the charity wants.
Ian Crowder, GWR spokesman, told This Is Gloucestershire: "We would certainly want to chat to the county council because potentially a similar thing could happen again and if it killed somebody that would be a death that could have been avoided."
Elsewhere, a man from Somerset managed to climb free of his up-turned vehicle after it collided with crash barriers in Yeovil.
