Redevelopment plans are being put forward for Telford ice rink, which would see crash barriers and other safety features being updated.

The recommendations are being put to Telford and Wrekin Council later this month and would cost an estimated £4 million to implement.

Other features proposed at the leisure facility include a children's soft play area, which may also benefit from the installation of play area fencing.

Councillor Arnold English, who is responsible for leisure facilities in the area, said: "We believe we can do a great job by retaining the ice rink for future generations and that we can have more success with the service than if it was to go into the private sector."

He believes that by adding additional services such as a restaurant, people will travel further across central England to make the most of the facilities on offer.

At present, there are not many ice rinks in the West Midlands, Mr English added.
