Work to improve junction 19 of the M5 has been completed by the Highways Agency.

The £3.5 million scheme was undertaken to repair and renovate the motorway which included widening of the A369 as well as installing new traffic lights. It is believed to improve congestion problems across the busy north Somerset route.

Bosses at the Highways Agency have recently been converting a number of motorways into managed systems across the country in a bid to allow major companies to become sponsors.

The latest work on the M5 has also seen the replacement of crash traffic barriers and the widening of a northbound slip road.

Elfan Ap Rees, North Somerset Council's deputy leader, said: "Traffic flows have already improved at junction 19 as a result of the work carried out, and by the time all the improvements are complete the misery of prolonged hold-ups for motorists in this area should be a thing of the past."
