The creation of the Everton Park gallery project in Liverpool is in full swing as officials have selected an architect for the development.

Broadway Malyan has beat off strong competition from the likes of Austin Smith Lord, Cass Associates, FVMA and Studio Three to land the design contract for the Everton Park Destination Hub. The decision follows a public consultation and an expert technical assessment, the former was held in February and was attended by 120 residents and interested parties from around the region. The meeting was to discuss the various outcomes for the park and Broadway Malyan was chosen as the preferred candidate.

Officials were impressed by the company's design plans for the Merseyside park which included an information centre, event and gallery space along with a cafe. The public consultation deemed the architect's vision of the park to be the best put forward. Residents were also impressed with the company's idea of providing an unrivalled panoramic view of Liverpool and the River Mersey.

Matt Brook, director of Broadway Malyan, said: “We explored the notion of ‘reveal’ by combining the landscape with a linear east to west facing building so that the full panorama is concealed and only revealed once the visitor reaches the tip of the building, maximising the impact of the vista and enhancing the visitor experience.”

Broadway Malyan is no stranger to major redevelopment projects and has been involved in work all over the globe. The company has been responsible for rejuvenating the iconic Rossio Station in Lisbon which was in serious need of refurbishment after originally being constructed in the late 1800s.

In the UK, the firm is currently in the midst of working on the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham alongside the NEC Group to give the events facility a new lease of life ready for the range of shows it will host in the coming years.

There is currently no date set on when the Everton Park Destination Hub will be completed.
